Swingers’ Myths
July 29th, 2009 by GaryThe Swinging lifestyle is not common to some cultures and quite a few of them would not even realize that it exists. It could be shocking to some people when they learn about the swinging lifestyle. Even people who have heard of the lifestyle may not know about their practices. Like many other subcultures, there are a lot of myths about the swinging lifestyle and about the swingers themselves. I have attempted to bust the three most common swinger myths and bring you the real facts.
Myth # 1. Swinging lifestyle is a thing of the 60’s and 70’s and has since phased out.
The 60’s and 70’s were when the hippie culture was a strong influence over the youth of the time. The young generation was immersed in a wave of unsuppressed love, such as the swinging lifestyle, that up until then was mainly suppressed by the otherwise conservative society. Since the end of the 70’s the hippie culture has die down significantly which has lead to the idea that the swinging lifestyleis also a thing of the past, however the reality is that the number of swingers has actually continued to increase.
Myth # 2. The swinging lifestyle is not safe and increases the risk to pass on sexual diseases.
Fact is, unsafe sex is potentially dangerous for anyone, not just swingers. That said, it is not true that practicing the swinging lifestyle increases your risks of sexually transmitted diseases. The truth is swingers tend to maintain higher hygiene in comparison to non-swingers since they are very well educated about the safest sexual practices. In most cases, swingers take all possible safety measures to keep themselves and their partners from any of the unpleasant experiences, such as STDs.
Myth # 3. Swingers are always couples looking for couples.
This is a very popular myth as one would might expect it to be. It is more than evident that swingers are highly sexual people, which is a reason some seek the swinging lifestyle to fulfill their cravings. Now this means that they would like to do more than just one on one and threesomes (or more) are very common. This leads to many swingers seeking out singles, and not just other couples, to join them during sexual activities.
Hopefully these three myths will die out. If you have other swinger myths you would like busted let us know.
